Safety Tips
WARNING! Please remember that bows and
arrows are not toys. Safety precautions should be taken just as with an air rifle or darts. A few safety tips that you
might consider, particularly
for the young archer,
are as follows:
- Always have adult supervision.
- Have an adequate backstop in the area behind the target and make sure that the target is free and clear of objects which may cause the arrow to bounce off or be deflected. Shoot only at the target - starting at a distance that the archer is capable of hitting consistently - then moving back.
- Be alert at all times to insure that no one or animal is anywhere down range of your shooting. Be sure that everyone is standing behind the archer. And NEVER point your bow at another person.
- If possible, select arrows that are correctly spined for your bow and are a safe length to shoot.
- It is recommended that you inspect your arrows occasionally for such possible dangers as cracked nocks, splits in the shaft or bent arrows. If you find that you have a potential problem, take the arrows to your local archery shop for an opinion as to whether they are dangerous to shoot or if an inexpensive repair can take care of the situation.
- NEVER DRY FIRE your bow (releasing your string without an arrow in it). It can cause severe damage to your bow. We recommend that you also check your bowstring. Before it becomes worn or frayed, be generous in applying bowstring wax.
- We recommend that you use a bowstringer when you string and unstring your bow. A bowstringer will prevent your bow’s limbs from becoming twisted. It also provides the safest method of stringing your bow as the limb tips are away from you during the stringing and unstringing process. Avoid placing your head close to the limb tips when stringing your bow.
- WARNING do not remove limb bolts while your bow is strung and check to be sure alignment pins are in the limb.
- Store your bow in a cool, dry place and avoid prolonged exposure to excessive heat and moisture. When cared for in this manner, your bow will provide you with many years of faithful service.
