How It All Began
- An old Eagle Scout, his interest in archery was rekindled in 1970 as a form of exercise. Recurves were it, when a new fangled bow called a compound arrived on the scene. Even though we had an assortment of about 15 recurves, of course, David had to have one. I told him, "you're an engineer, make your own". My mistake...he did. The next thing happened, other people wanted one also. Allen and Jennings, the only other compound bow companies at the time, had bulky wooden handles, as did our first bow. So, David decided to manufacture the first metal handle compound and we called our company Olympus Archery. The bow won several NFAA national titles. In 1975, we sold out to our partner and choose to go into retail archery. Over the last 36 years, we've seen recurves die off and then resurrect in the form of custom recurves with very high prices and very slow delivery.
- When you call us, you will usually talk to me - I'm Peggy. I answer the phone & take orders. My only claim to fame is...I'm David's wife and ..Terry's mom.
- Our daughter, Terry, has been the serious competitor in the family. She has been competing since the ripe old age of 7. She's a 3-time National Champion. Shooting a compound in NFAA and winning Barebow and Freestyle Limited. Shooting a recurve in the NAA and winning the Women's Division. After taking 1st in NAA (FITA) Outdoors, 2nd at Indoor Nationals and 5th at National Field, she was awarded the Shenk Award and named "Archer of the Year". She has been a four time member of the US Archery Team and has trained at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. She was also a member of the World Indoor Team that competed in England and represented the US in the Golden Arrow Tournament in Turkey. She is shooting our Comet XL.
- It is because of Terry's working with youth groups like JOAD, 4-H and the Boy Scouts that first got us involved in making our recurves. We started looking for a good quality and smooth shooting take-down with a price that would be easy on the parents. The only economical bows were imports. When we had a warranty problem, we waited 1-2 months for a warranty set of limbs to arrive. We've been there, done that in our retail store. So, we decided to make our own.
- Oh yea, David finished 5th at the first NFAA Pro Division Championship in Aurora, Illinois. Not bad considering in 5 days of shooting, he broke two strings (one he had to break in on his way to the 80 yard walk-up). This was a B-50 string (before fast flite material).
I sure will be glad when
my new Quinn recurve
gets here
Let us first introduce ourselves. We are a family business made up of David and Peggy Quinn and our daughters, Terry, known by her friends and competitors around the world as "TQ" and Cathy, the one member of our family who will never shoot an arrow, but has been with us every day of her life. She has Cerebral Palsy. David, the resident grouch, is the backbone of our recurves. He designed and is single-handedly building every bow we make. An archer since high school, David has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, was a charter member of the NFAA Pro Division and the Texas Field Archery Pro Division.
